Thoughts on poets

I wrote an essay called “Why Poetry Criticism Sucks”  which, of all my essays published on the web, seems to be the one that is the most popular. (I assume because of the provocative title.) Of course, writing this essay didn’t stop me from writing all sorts of poetry reviews for all sorts of venues — from glossy newsstand magazines to the smallest poetry journals. And there’s no doubt but that I myself wrote glowingly of poets who I admire, in exactly the tone that I critique in “Why Poetry Criticism Sucks.” Regardless, I thought it would be cool to have all the reviews I’ve written over the past 15 years all in one place — in The Academy of Trees.
